Thanks for the information on your gardening system. I'm going to try a couple. I should be able to have garden all year in sunny San Diego.

My daughter has been bugging me to start a garden since we moved across the country five years ago. I can now do so without digging up all the sand, rocks, and acorns we have in our yard. Has anyone grown corn in theirs yet? I love the simplicity!

Thanks so much for the plans for the self-watering planter. I made two of them this weekend, and besides being fun, I have four tomato plants planted. I live in the high desert, so conserving water is important and keeping the tomatoes hydrated is a challenge. I posted about it on my blog and gave you credit at http://anygivensundry.blogspot.com

Josh,
Thank you for putting up the detailed plans for homemade growing containers. I saw them a couple of years ago and ended up putting 30 of them on my garage roof. I've got together with a few like minded neighbors here in the middle of the City of Chicago and we're all doing it.
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

I found your article on home-made earthboxes extremely informative and, as an extra blessing, that you made it free for folks to use. Good for you...jolly good show!

You are a genius to come up with a reasonable way to make your own self-contained watering systems! Furthermore, I made 4 this spring and used them this summer and they work AWESOME! Thank you for sharing your idea with us. I did make one alteration, because my boxes did not mesh up perfectly next to each other, I used a couple of inches of clear tubing to run through both containers for the overflow and it works like a charm. I found 4ft drinkable black tubing in the plumbing dept of Lowes, cut in half on angle to have 2 watering tubes. Next year, I plan to chronicle the growth of one of my containers. I have referred several people to your website for instructions and next week I am making 4 more. Thank you again!!!!!!

someone posted your info on the self contained garden boxes and I think it was very clever of you to come up with a homemade one. Great for folks who have limited space.
